Obituary

Judith "Judy" Katherine (Blackmer) Collins, 74, of Longmeadow, MA, beloved wife for 52 years of Attorney Charles A. Collins, originally from the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, passed on to immortal life at BayState Medical Center on Monday, December 10, 2018, surrounded by her family. Judy was born on April 8, 1944 in Quincy, MA. She was the only child of Dr. Lewis D. Blackmer and Marion Ursula (Shea) Blackmer of Springfield. Judy grew up in Hungry Hill and attended Our Lady of Hope School. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1961, and Our Lady of The Elms College in 1965. She pursued a career in teaching, and worked for the Enfield, CT and Springfield, MA public school systems, and was a substitute teacher in East Longmeadow and Springfield.  Judy lived in Longmeadow for the last year. She  had resided in East Longmeadow for more than 30 years. She and her husband also lived in Brewster, MA and Jacksonville, FL before returning to Massachusetts in 2012 to spend more time with their grandchildren.  Judy was a loving mother to, and is survived by, four wonderful children and their spouses, and four beautiful grandchildren: Brian and Joanna (Sarno) Collins and their daughter Sydney of Longmeadow MA; Jenny Caroon and her husband Scott, and sons Lliam and Rylan of West Suffield, CT; Rebecca Godard and her husband Richard and son Nicholas of Enfield, CT; and Jonathan Collins of Feeding Hills, MA. In addition to her family and friends, Judy will be profoundly missed by her beloved dog of 17 years, Lacey, her Lhasa Apso, who rarely left her side.  Judy was a talented artist who loved to decorate her home. She made crafts, jewelry and blankets as gifts for showers, birthdays and holidays. Judy's crocheted blankets, handmade earrings, and birdhouses are among the many gifts Judy made for others to decorate their homes with.  A Mass of Christian burial will be at Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills, MA on Friday, December 14th at 10:30 AM. Calling hours are from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main St, West Springfield MA.  In lieu of flowers, Judy's family requests that donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Special thanks are given to the nurses and staff of Baystate Medical Center (SW 5 & Daly 6) for their caring, compassion and kindness to Judy and her family.
