Katherine D. DiRoma

1915 – 2018

West Springfield – Katherine D. (Palmieri) DiRoma, 102, formerly of North Street in Feeding Hills, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center.  Katherine was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 12, 1915, the daughter of Rocco and Diomina (Lanzetta) Palmieri.  A 1934 graduate of Samuel J. Tilden High School, Katherine was employed as a Bookkeeper at the Brooklyn Navy Yard throughout World War II.  In 1944 she married Florian R. DiRoma of West Springfield.  During their 65-year marriage they traveled throughout the United States and several times visited friends and family in both Italy and Brazil.  Katherine retired from WICO Prestolite Electric Company in 1980.  She was predeceased by her brothers Savino, Michael, Alphonse, Joseph, Rocco, Leonard, and Francis Palmieri and by her sisters Theresa DiRoma and Archangel Abbondola.  She is survived by her sister-in-law Frances Palmieri of VA; and by three generations of loving nieces and nephews, in particular the Hon. Daniel R. Palmieri of NY, Marilyn L. Rossi of Onset, and Elizabeth A. Melchiori of Springfield.  The funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday at 10:30am with Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church at 11:30am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be Monday from 4:00 – 7:00pm.  Memorial donations may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215 or to the Fresh Air Fund, 633 Third Ave., 14 ^th Floor, New York, NY 10017 (www.freshair.com).
