Katharine Madeline Shea, 95, returned to the Lord peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Mount Marie Healthcare. Katharine was the daughter of the late James and Katharine Reardon Shea. She was predeceased by her brother Dr. Robert J. Shea, sister-in-law Catherine Quinn Shea, loving nephew Michael Linus Shea and grand nephews Patrick and Ian Shea. Kay attended Holy Name Grammar, Cathedral HS and Our Lady of the Elms. She continued her education obtaining a PhD in Spanish Literature from University of Massachusetts. Her very early teaching years were spent at local public schools. She continued her career retiring as a Professor of Spanish teaching both undergraduate and Masters students at Worcester State College. Kay was a devout Catholic deriving great strength and purpose from her faith. She had a particular interest in the Pro Life ministry. An avid reader, she spent her retirement years on Cape Cod enlightening her family and friends to conservative principles she deeply believed in. Ever the teacher, many a person was the recipient of a thick packet of researched information in response to a simple question! Auntie Kay was the only and favorite aunt to : Margaret (Tim) McCarthy, J.P. (Kim) Shea, Robert (Margaret) Shea, Maura Ollari, Kathryn Shea, Brendan (Diane) Shea, Michael (Patty) Shea, Deidre (Dave) Tougias, Nonabeth (Paul) Fenton and Teresa (Todd) Brown. In addition she leaves numerous grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews to cherish her memory. The Shea family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to her caretakers at Mont Marie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held March 5, 2016 at Holy Name Church at 12 noon.
