Kathleen L. Butler
1946 – 2015

West Springfield – Kathleen L. (Witkop) Butler passed into eternal life on July 20, 2015 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 1, 1946, the fifth of the eight children born to Gerald V. and M. Kathryn (Hart) Witkop in Springfield. She lived in Hampden and Springfield in her early years, and West Springfield all of her adult life. She was a 1964 graduate of Cathedral High School and of the Brightside Child Care Program. She was a child-care professional at Brightside, and instructor at Baroco Habilitation Corp. and a paraprofessional in the West Springfield Special Education program for many years, where she touched many lives. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Josephine Seddon and Eileen Witkop, her former husband William Butler and a son John. She leaves two sons, William and his partner Debbie of East Longmeadow and Michael and his partner Kara of West Springfield, her grandson, Aidan Butler and siblings Gerald Witkop of Wilbraham, Anne Trudeau of Chicopee, Jane Sullivan and Jeanette Gilmartin of Springfield, Mary Limoges of Bow, NH, as well as many nieces, nephews, members of the Butler family and her friends at Monastery Heights of West Springfield. She is remembered as a kind and generous woman who provided many moments of fun and adventure to her nieces, nephews and all the children for whom she was a caregiver and a strong advocate. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday at 9:00am with Liturgy in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 10:00am followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery in Chicopee. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00pm.
