1922 – 2010

FEEDING HILLS – Lawrence "Larry" J. LaValley, 88 of Hastings Street died Wednesday surrounded by his family in the Soldier's Home of Holyoke. He was born in Springfield, son of the late Adelard and Elsie (Dunn) LaValley. Larry grew up in West Springfield attending local schools, and has lived in Feeding Hills for the past 62 years. Larry was a man whose accomplishments were to his family and grandchildren. If there were an award for his dedication to family, he would win "hands down". He served with the United States Army Air Force during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Lawrence married Gloria M. Lachapelle on August 28, 1948. He worked at the Springfield Armory and later enjoyed a career of driving over 30 years for John S. Lane RediMix of Westfield and retired from Construction Services in 1987. He loved cars, the outdoors and all things related to nature. He was an avid skier and longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills. He leaves his loving wife of 62 years Gloria M. (Lachapelle) LaValley and was the father of seven children and their spouses; John and Deborah of Southwick, Gerald and Sally of Feeding Hills, Edward and Kimberly of Agawam, Robert and Amy of Westfield, Richard and Lynn of West Springfield, Madeline Soden and Barry of Ludlow and Janine Swiecanski and Daniel of Feeding Hills. Larry also leaves a sister Rita Ledgerwood; ten grandchildren April Cantrell, Laurie Dwyer and her husband Simon, Michael Soden, Kevin Soden and his wife Amylia, Christina, Robert, Katelyn, Nathan, Jordan and Mitchell LaValley along with three great grandchildren Margaret and Wesley Dwyer and Olivia Soden. The funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday, November 30 at 9:00am with Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church at 10:00am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4:00 – 7:00pm.
