Lawrence P. Sheehan, 82, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2021, surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his home.  Larry, the son of Patrick and Catherine (Fitzgerald) Sheehan, was born in Springfield on November 23, 1938.  He grew up in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, and was a graduate of Cathedral High School.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from St. Anselm College in 1961, and continued his education at Westfield State College, receiving both a Master's in Education and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies. Larry became a Social Studies teacher at Agawam High School in 1961, where he was also a class advisor and coach of several sports teams.  He was beloved by thousands of students and their families, serving multiple generations with his encyclopedic mind, Irish wit, and inextinguishable smile.  He taught at Agawam High School for thirty-seven years until his retirement in 1998. Over the years, he was involved in many clubs and organizations, including the Sons of Erin, the Men's Over 30 Basketball League, the Skip McCarthy Softball League and Southwick Country Club. A fierce competitor, Larry loved sports, especially golf, bowling, softball, and basketball, where he received several awards for his achievements as well as his sportsmanship.  In addition, he enjoyed playing cards and participated in competitive pitch leagues.  Larry loved spending time with his family and friends, relishing daily interactions around town as well as his annual trips to Cape Cod for festive, loving, fun-filled vacations.  A consummate gentlemen, joyful spirit, and kind soul, he will be profoundly missed and continuously celebrated by all who were fortunate to have known him.  Larry is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Patricia A. (Porter) Sheehan; his children: Patrick of Plymouth, MI; Cathy Molta and her husband Robert of Southwick, MA; Abbie Lareau and her husband Robert of Granby, CT; and Lawrence M. Sheehan of Attleboro, MA.  He also leaves five cherished grandchildren, Shannon and Megan Sheehan; Christopher and Ryan Molta; Renee Bryll and her husband Dan; two great-grandchildren, Everly and Benjamin Bryll; and his sister-in-law, Lynda Depalo.  He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Saralee (Smith) Sheehan, and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Fales.  All services will private.  Donations in Larry's name may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.  Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  For on-line condolences, please visit curranjones.com
