Obituary

Leo A. Robert, 98, passed away on December 8, 2016 at Mary's Meadow at Providence Place in Holyoke.  He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Hermanita Robert, who passed away in 2002.  He was the sexton and a parishioner of St. Theresa's Church in South Hadley for over 50 years, a South Hadley resident since 1947, and a long-time substitute teacher at So. Hadley High School. He was a typesetter for the Hartford Times in Hartford, CT and co-owned Marvel Press in Holyoke.  His proudest moments were when he taught journalism and business to students at Holyoke Catholic High School for two decades.  He was a 4 th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Mt. Holyoke Masonic Lodge.  A veteran of WWII, he served in the Army infantry and signal corps in Algeria, Morocco, Italy, and Germany. He is survived by his son, Paul L. Robert, and a daughter-in-law whom he loved as a daughter, Maureen A. Robert, both of Broad Brook, CT, and three grandchildren: Allison M. Robert of Broad Brook, Erin B. Robert of New York City, and Matthew P. Robert of Union City, NJ.  He took great pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren.  His brother, Richard Robert of Inverness, FL also survives him.  He was predeceased by his brothers Roger and Donald, and his sister, Bertha Roy. Leo and his family are grateful for the love and compassion shown him by the residents and dedicated staff of Providence Place and, later, Mary's Meadow, with whom he made his home since 2004. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 10, at 11am at St. Theresa's Church, with interment to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley.  Calling hours at the CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME in South Hadley will be 9 to 10:30am.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Theresa's Church.
