Lester R. Lamothe

WEST SPRINGFIELD-Lester R. Lamothe, 89, of 10 Clayton Drive died on Thursday March 3rd at Baystate Medical Center. Lester was born in West Springfield, the son of Alfred and Agnes Lamothe and has lived in West Springfield all his life. Lester served in the US Navy during WWII as an electricians mate 1st Class aboard the Heavy Destroyer USS Tuscaloosa. He retired from H.P. Hood Ice Cream in 1985 after 23 years. Lester served as a Town Meeting member for 23 years; was chairman of the Memorial School building committee; was first commander and founder of VFW Post 6714; was a Eucharistic Minister of St. Louis Church and was chairman and member of the Deadline Gang. He was predeceased by his first wife Alicia (O'Brien) Lamothe in 1975 and his son Dennis Lamothe in 2007. He leaves his wife Pauline (Bernier) Lamothe, seven children, Sharon Lamothe, Pamela Mahaney, Donald Bernier, Linda Haines, Normand Bernier, Paul Bernier and Lucille Bernier-Ashley, his sister Vivian Swartz, his daughter-in-law Ellen Randal-Lamothe, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 am from West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by Liturgy in St. Thomas Church at 10 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday 4-6 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
