May 5, 1929 – February 20, 2026
Lewis J. "Lewie" Gonet, 96, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 20, 2026 at home. Born in Springfield, son of the late John and Pauline (Wojnar) Gonet, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam and a 1947 graduate of Agawam High School. Lewie was a longtime employee of the former Hathaway & Steam Company where he ran their tobacco farms. He was an army veteran of the Korean War and had his pilot's license for over fifty years. Lewie had his own aircraft flying out of the former Bowles Airport in Agawam. In his later years he developed and operated hangers and flew his aircraft at Westfield-Barnes Airport. He was also a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. His wife, Kathryn L. "Kay" (Sinkovich) Gonet died on December 2, 2023, and his two brothers, Fr. Charles F. Gonet died on June 10, 2019 and William T. Gonet died on April 3, 2023. He leaves four nephews, William P. Gonet and his wife Helene of Westfield, John C. Gonet and his fiancée Kathy Wurster of Southwick, Thomas G. Gonet of Feeding Hills, Roger L. Gonet and his wife Agnes of Agawam, eleven great-nieces and great-nephews and four great-great-nieces. The family would like to thank Debbie Drenzek along with Abee Ikah for their dedication in caring for their Uncle Lewie. The funeral will be Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 9am from the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street followed by a Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 10.
