Obituary

West Springfield - Lieselotte "Lee" (Flaskamper) Bishop Mercer, 89, passed away in the presence of family and surrounded by love in her home on Sept. 12, 2025.  Lee was born on August 31,1936 in Springfield, daughter of the late Gerda and John (Jack) Flaskamper. She grew up in Long Island, NY and West Springfield, Massachusetts, graduating from West Springfield High School, class of 1954 and from Endicott College in 1956.  She was united in marriage to the late Alan Bishop in 1957.  Lee was a dedicated wife and mother during her young adulthood.  With 4 young children at home, she returned to college again and graduated from STCC as an RN.  She worked as an RN for 40 years at Noble Hospital, Trinity Health of New England and Cape Coral Hospital.  Her love for nursing and caring for others was her life's mission. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, James "Jay" Mercer III, her sister Lynne Anderson (late Robert Anderson), brother John Flaskamper (Catalina), her four children:  Michael Bishop (Susan), Donna Bishop Bright (Ronald), Sharon Bishop and John Bishop (Sarah), her four step children:  the late Sharon Juergensen (Michael), James Mercer IV (Melinda), Patrick Mercer (Kathy), Cristin Mercer McNeil (David).  Sixteen Grandchildren, Taylor Bright, Kyle Bishop, Philip Bishop, Shanna Bishop, Brandon Clement, Lynann Clement, Jennifer Merchant, Amber Beauchemin, Michael Juergensen, Jamey Mercer, Eddie Mercer, Andrew Mercer, Timothy Mercer, Patrick Mercer, Eva Sanchez and Ben Sanchez.  Fourteen Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and loving friends.  Lee and Jay spent many weekends boating around New England and Block Island.  She loved light houses, spending time at the beach and treasured her time in Cape Coral, Florida.  Family was very important to Lee. She was a devoted wife, a loving Mother, caring Grandmother and Great Grandmother. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
