Obituary

Lois A. (Arnold) Nims, 96, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 11, 2022, with her family present. Born in Springfield in 1926, the fourth daughter of Henry S. and Catharine (Ludwig) Arnold, she grew up on Watershops Pond, where she and her family ice skated throughout the winter. Lois was a graduate of Classical High School. At Classical she was a member of the Orchestra, playing percussion. In her junior year Lois auditioned for the Ice Capades, and was accepted. From 1943-1946, Lois traveled with the Show, which she enjoyed immensely. After returning to Springfield Lois began work at Monarch Life Insurance. In 1947 she married Richard F. Nims, also of Springfield. Richard worked in the family business, B.D. Nims Lumber Co. in West Springfield. He and Lois built their home there in 1953, where they remained all of their married life. She was predeceased by Richard in 2012 after 65 years of marriage. Lois was very active all her life in tennis, skating, skiing, hiking and swimming. She was also a professional artist and had group and solo shows for many years. Several of her pastel works and stone sculptures are currently in the Michelson Gallery in Northampton. She leaves a daughter, Erica Glasser and son-in-law Mike Glasser of Cumberland, MD; a son, Jason Nims and daughter-in-law Maria Bezaitis of Portland, OR; four grandchildren, Maya Glasser, Isaak Glasser, Theodore Nims, Lucas Nims, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to her caregivers Kathy, Julie, Jaz, Mary and Fay, who cared for mom with such loving kindness in her final months, as well as Baystate Hospice for enabling mom to stay in her home as was her wish. A private graveside service and a memorial gathering for Lois will be held in the spring of 2023. We request in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Dakin Humane Society, at dakinhumane.org For online condolences, please visit curranjones. com.
