Lyman Smith Sr.
1937-2011
WEST SPRINGFIELD-Lyman "Paul" Smith passed away peacefully at Baystate Medical Center on July 10, 2011, after a brave fight with illness. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years and was honorably discharged. Born in Dresden, TN he lived in West Springfield for 30 years with his beloved companion Arline Smith. He worked many years for Strathmore Paper Company and Windsor Marketing as a skilled paper cutter. Paul was a senior member of the Mawaga Sportsman's Club. He was also a member of Agawam Baptist Church. His hobbies were buying and selling at fairs and craft shows. He loved to read, go fishing, country music and to go to Branson, MO to view country music stars at their shows. He leaves his son Lyman Paul Smith Jr., of IN, his sister Susan King of TN, brothers Wilburn Smith of TN and Charles Smith of Dixon, IL. He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas and Donald Smith. He will be sadly missed by sister-in-law Ethel Smith of Evanville, KY and friends Ward and Paula Remington of West Springfield. The funeral service will be Thursday at 1 pm at the Agawam Baptist Church followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home are Wednesday 4-7 pm.
