West Springfield – Margaret M. (Egan) Bailey, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, December 28, 2020. She was born in Springfield, MA, to the late Helen (Lacey) Egan and William R. Egan. Margaret, known as Peg, lived most of her life in West Springfield before recently moving to Ellington, CT. Peg was a devoted communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and taught for 20 years at the St. Thomas Parish school. She was a member of the St. Thomas Women's Club and also the Senior Club. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with family and friends, learning new skills, and encouraging her students and grandchildren to excel. One of her favorite pastimes was gathering her clan to enjoy an Otis afternoon. All were welcome. In retirement she served as a community volunteer and stayed active in the West Springfield Senior Center. Thoughtful and caring to old and new friends and neighbors, she continued to serve by unselfishly putting others first. Her family will be forever grateful for her everlasting life lessons and legacy of kindness. She was the loving wife of 65 years to Robert E. Bailey, beloved mother to Ann Dusel and husband Charles of West Springfield; Ellen Castonguay and husband Maurice of Ellington, CT; Patricia Harkins and husband Thomas of Glastonbury, CT; Robert J. Bailey and wife Heidi of Ellington, CT; and William J. Bailey and wife Joanna of Otis, MA. She was a wonderful grandmother to Megan Deis and husband Kevin; Charles R. Dusel; Marc Castonguay; Kathryn Weber and husband John; Daniel Harkins; Nora Harkins; Margo Bailey; Robert E. Bailey; Darby Bailey; Keelin Bailey; Riley Bailey and great grandchild Natalie Weber. Peg also leaves several devoted nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor O'Brien and grandson Matthew Bailey. The family would like to thank the staff of The Ivy in Ellington, CT, as well as staff at Evergreen Health Care Center of Stafford Springs, CT, for their compassionate care and support. Family and friends are invited to attend the Liturgy of Christian Burial, Thursday Dec. 31 st , 10:00am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.
