WEST SPRINGFIELD – Margaret D. (Thomas) Gamelli, 93, formerly of Amostown Road died peacefully Tuesday evening, May 20th at Wingate Nursing Home. Margaret was born in Berlin,Germany and came to the United States in 1929. She has lived in West Springfield since 1942 and volunteered her time at the former Springfield Hospital. Her husband of 65 years, Alphonse Gamelli, died in 2003, and a son, Paul, died in 1995.
She leaves two sons - Peter of Charleston, South Carolina and Robert of St.George, Utah. She had six grandchildren – Gregory Gamelli of Tacoma, WA, David Gamelli who died in 1982, Lisa Labrie of West Springfield, Holly Bruso of West Springfield, Mellisa Gamelli of Chicopee, and Peter Gamelli Jr. of Ludlow.
In addition she leaves 9 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Margaret enjoyed her flowers and enjoyed extensive traveling, especially to Germany.
The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home on Monday, June 2 at 10:30 followed by burial in Paucatuck Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, June 1 from 4:00-7:00pm.
