WEST SPRINGFIELD-Margaret "Peg" Taylor, 93, died Saturday at Wingate in West Springfield. She was born in West Springfield and lived here most of her life. She graduated from Cathedral High School and from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She entered the Army Nurse Corps in 1945 and served on a hospital ship off the coast of Virginia and later the Panama Canal. While she was stationed as a Lieutenant at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Colorado, she met her soon to be husband Sgt. Tom Taylor after he was injured in the Pacific. Peg was a member of the Mercy Hospital Alumni; the St. Thomas Women's Club; the Diocesan Counsel of Nurses and was a longtime member of the West Springfield St. Patrick's Parade Committee, receiving the honor of Parade Marshall in 2000. She was a private duty nurse at area hospitals until she took the job as school nurse in West Springfield from 1972 until 1987. Peg was predeceased by her husband Tom in1990 and her sister Mary Mattina in 2014. She leaves two sons, David Taylor of Charlotte, NC and Timothy Taylor of Spokane, WA, two daughters, Loretta Augusti of W. Springfield and Patricia Lodi of Hooksett, NH, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday at 9 am from West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by Mass in St. Thomas Church at 10 am. Burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 4-7 pm.
