Marguerite C. Schufreider

1936 – 2026

West Springfield – Marguerite C. (Thompson) Schufreider, 89, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.  Marguerite was born and raised in Philadelphia where she graduated from St. Basil Academy.  She and her husband moved to West Springfield to raise their family.  Tragically, her husband died at the age of 33, leaving her to raise six young children.  As a single mother, she went to school and received her nursing degree and worked as a nurse for Baystate Medical Center until her retirement.  Her hobbies included gardening and quilting and she was an active communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, where she attended daily Mass and served on the alter. Her husband Joseph J. Schufreider Sr. died in 1970.  She leaves her six children: Denise Palmer and her husband Mark, Keith Schufreider, Joseph Schufreider, Patty Schufreider, John Schufreider and his wife Sarah and Mary Schufreider; a brother John Thompson, sister Jeanne Gaudette and her husband Robert; nine grandchildren Amanda, Emily, Jessica, Markie, Joey, Jacob, Danielle, Rachael and Finley; and five great grandchildren Grady, Madison, Julien, Joe and Aurora and many nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband, Marguerite was predeceased by a granddaughter Ally and great grandson Eddie. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday, Feb. 3rd from 4:00 – 7:00pm.  Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Wednesday at 11:00am for the Funeral Liturgy followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to Baystate VNA & Hospice Care.
