In Loving Memory of Maria, with tremendous sorrow and deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved Maria. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend, Family was the center of Maria’s world. She cherished every moment with her loved ones. Her nieces and nephews had a special place in her heart. She spoke with great pride of her family as they grew through the generations. She had a strong bond with her four brothers, Donald, Buddy, Mark, and Phillip. Maria Declares her brothers are the reason for her strong character, extreme perseverance, and determination. Maria is pre-deceased by her father William Serra, her mother Anna (Pescetta) Serra-Delmonico, and Anna’s late husband Ben Delmonico. Maria is survived by her loving family whose lives were forever enriched by her kindness, generosity, humor, and unconditional love. She is survived by her brothers Donald Serra (Karen), Buddy Serra (Chris), Mark Serra (Margaret), Phillip Serra (Sheila), Her nieces and nephews Gina Serra, Melanie Serra-Weaver(Brett Weaver), Erika Daniels(Andrew), Ryan Serra (Kerry), Patrick Serra (Megan), Jennifer Dobiecki (Alex), Meaghan (Vince), Daniel Serra, Michael Serra, Dominic Serra, Anna Serra (Bryan), Andrew Serrra (Deanna), Gino Serra, Julia Serra (Cory), Great nieces and nephews Braiden and Brody Weaver, Hazel Serra, Vincent Daniels, Matteo Serra, Lilliana Serra, Ellory Daniels, Luca Serra, Forrest Serra, John Marshall Dobiecki. Maria had a passion for her family’s history, genealogy, and culture. The family leaned into her for answers to questions about lineage and family traditions. Her passion for knowledge grew outside of the family history. Maria had an inquisitive nature and loved learning. She attended Italian lessons at the Italina Cultural center, she learned and played mahjong at the Agawam Senior Center, enjoyed Yoga, Bones & Balance at West Springfield Senior Center. She took everything she learned and lovingly passed her knowledge along to others. Maria was an exceptional employee working as a brilliant computer programmer for various insurance organizations. Once retired, she kept busy giving back to the community. She volunteered for the laboratory at Mercy Medical Center. Maria continued to stay active into her retirement walking daily in Mittineague Park with one of her best friends and cousins. She had a passion for outdoor activities. She enjoyed downhill skiing, hiking, snow shoeing, cross country, biking, and traveling. Maria especially loved being out on the golf course, where her laughter competitive spirit, and friendships created countless treasured memories. Maria was an enthusiastic traveler. She has many unforgettable memories with friends and family traveling both in the United States and abroad. Her favorite trip was cycling solo across all of Ireland. She continued to travel throughout Europe much of her life, one trip to the French Riviera she ventured her way through Monte Carlo, the Khan Film Festival, and the Monaco Grand Prix. Maria traveled multiple times to Italy to reconnect with extended family. She has gone to England through the years to visit her close friend across the pond. Maria has hiked through Utah, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy. Although Maria loved to travel, her most treasured place to be, was close to home with friends and family. Maria cherished her home, community, family, and friends in Western Massachusetts. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Maria’s love, strength, and beautiful spirit will remain with us always. Family will be accepting visitors at West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main St. Friday July 10th 3-6pm. A celebration of life will be planned for the Fall of 2026.
