Marie L. (Benard) Deitz, 70, died peacefully Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Loomis House in Holyoke. She fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Marie was the daughter of the late Albert and Loretta (Viens) Benard, the eighth child of nine, she was born on Charbonneau Terrace in Willimansett and grew up in the Aldenville section of Chicopee. She graduated from Chicopee High School in 1963 with Pacer Pride. Marie worked in real estate for thirty plus years and retired in 2007as the manager from Coldwell Banker. She was dedicated to her work and was known, in Chicopee, as the "Epitome of Realtors". She loved Elvis and all of his movies, and as sick as she was, her face would still light up whenever she would hear his music. Marie's loved centered on being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She was a communicant of St. Anne's Church. Marie leaves behind her beloved husband of forty-nine years, Walter E. Deitz, he was her devoted caregiver throughout her illness. She leaves behind her daughters, Michelle L. Booker and her husband Andrew of Westfield, Christine M. Theroux and her husband Justin of Easthampton, her cherished and much-loved granddaughters, Katherine and Kristen Booker. She also leaves behind her three brothers and their wives, George and Claire Benard of Easthampton, Robert and Rita Benard of Chicopee, Paul and Linda Benard of Bondsville, a sister and her husband, Janet and Jay Whittaker of Marlborough, and her Godmother, Marie Golba of Chicopee. Marie also leaves behind her extended family, the Deitz's, where her nickname became MD1. Many also fondly called her "Mama Deitz", because she shared her love of life with all, including all of her many nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly. Marie's family expresses its gratitude to each member of her Loomis team who helped and assisted her during her stay. The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:30am from the CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 33 Lamb Street with a Mass in St. Anne's Church at 9:30. The burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Marie's name be made to Loomis House, 298 Jarvis Avenue, Holyoke, MA 01040.
