Mario A. Pioggia, 70, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 2, 2017. Born in Springfield, son of the late Mario and Dorothy (Thompson) Pioggia, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam and a 1964 graduate of Agawam High School where he was also a gymnast. Mario worked for fifteen years as an iron worker for Local 57 of the Ironworkers Association. He was an army veteran of the Vietnam War and a green beret. He leaves his wife of fifty years, Carolyn A. (Tourville) Pioggia, three sons, Mario A. Pioggia, Jr. of Chicopee, Brian C. Pioggia of Manchester, CT, Richard P. Pioggia of Agawam, a daughter, Jennifer A. Pioggia of Agawam, two brothers, Ronald Pioggia and Michael Pioggia both of Agawam, a sister, Donna Camp of West Springfield, and twelve grandchildren. The service will be Tuesday at 10am at the chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street. There are no calling hours and the AGAWAM CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME is in charge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriors.org
