Marion Graham Brindle 1926-2017

Marion Graham Brindle, 91, died Wednesday August 23rd at Heritage Hall in Agawam. She was born March 17, 1926 to Robert W. and Elsie F. Graham in Buffalo, N.Y. Marion first attended Ohio Wesleyan College but graduated from Syracuse University in 1948 with a BA degree in education. At Syracuse, she met a WWII Pacific Theater Marine Corps officer and veteran Richard Brindle. They were married in June 1948. Once her children were in school, Marion taught fifth grade in Southwick, MA for 16 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her lifelong closest friends. She shared her love and laughter with all and never passed up an invitation to play bridge, swim or travel. She also was deeply devoted to the welfare of handicapped citizens. She was active in the AFS program hosting two AFS students, an AFS teacher and many AFS poolside parties. In her retirement, she traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Europe and the Pacific. Richard Brindle, well known in Agawam as a town councilman, passed away in February 1996. She was also predeceased by her oldest sister and longtime traveling partner Jean Dugan of Boulder, Colorado.

She leaves two sons, Richard Brindle and wife Kristine of Castle Rock, CO and Graham " Scott" Brindle and his wife Kathleen of Longmeadow, MA. She also leaves three daughters, Jean Brindle of Feeding Hills, MA; Susan Brindle of Monson MA; and Elsie and husband Wayne Mallory of Agawam. She also leaves two sisters, Ruth Jeffery of Portland, OR; and Nancy Musser of Bainbridge, GA. She leaves seven grandchildren, Eric, Adam, Joseph and Brooke Brindle and Stephen, Erin and Kevin Mallory, and two great grandchildren Cora and Lukas Brindle, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, September 7 at 10:00 AM at the Agawam Congregational Church followed by the burial in the Agawam Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 6 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Springfield's Shriners Hospital, the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind or the Agawam Congregational Church.
