Marjorie E.
Ortensi
February 10, 1930 – February 9, 2017
Marjorie E. (McKissick) Ortensi, 87, passed away on Thursday, February 9 at her home in Granby. A native of Holyoke, she was the daughter of George and Emma (Achnick) McKissick. A graduate of Holyoke High School and the Holyoke School of Nursing, she was employed as an emergency room nurse at Holyoke Hospital. After taking a break to raise her family, Marge returned to her nursing career at the Hospital and following that, the Soldier's Home where her work schedule dictated the weather. Her family and neighbors knew to plan on rain when Marge had the weekend off. Predeceased by her husband Donald A. Ortensi in 2000, Marge leaves her children, Pamela M. Dougherty and her husband Jack of Southwick, Gregory D. Ortensi and his wife Bernadette of New York, Gary P. Ortensi and his partner Kathy of Holyoke, and Douglas A. Ortensi and his wife Mollie of Granby. She also leaves her brother George (Fuzz) McKissick and his wife Barb of Naperville, Illinois, along with their children Karen, Jim, Jack and Drew McKissick. Nine grandsons, two great-granddaughters, a great-grandson, and several great nieces and nephews also survive her. A resident of Granby for 63 years, Marge, just like her mother, was a "people person" who always had time for a chat. She filled her retirement years enjoying lunches with friends, family gatherings, quilting and playing dominos. Marge was also fond of doing needlepoint and her family cherishes those handmade gifts she made with such love. She will be remembered for her generosity and caring nature. Marge was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Holyoke. The funeral home service will be held Friday, 11:00 am at the CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley followed by burial in West St. Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service on Friday from 9:30 to 11:00. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 34 Jarvis Avenue, Holyoke, MA 01040; or the Granby Council on Aging/Senior Center, 10 West State Street, Granby, MA 01033.
