Marlene M. Gagne, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10th, 2016, at Holyoke Medical Center with her family at her side. Marlene, the daughter of Emile and Germaine Cote, was born July 12th, 1933 in Holyoke. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Roger and Raymond Cote. Marlene was the loving wife of Donald A. Gagne. Marlene and Don were married October 13th, 1956 in Amherst, MA, and were to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this Thursday. She was the devoted mother to her three sons, Joseph, Andre, and Jacques (Jay). She leaves a daughter-in-law Jill Gagne and a son-in-law Jack Delmond. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Allison Gagne, Kara Bombard and her husband Brandon, Andre Gagne and his wife Cassidy, and Raymond Gagne and his partner Sacha Colon, and her step grandchildren, Dan and Alexis Powers. She also leaves three great grandchildren, Ara, Meadow and Roman. Marlene looked forward to the coming of two additional great grandchildren later this year. Marlene also leaves her sister Lorraine Brunelle and her brother Norman Cote, her sisters-in-law Phyllis Cote, Louise Newton, Irene Cote of South Hadley and Irene Cote of FL as well as many nieces and nephews. Marlene was a talented secretary and stenographer for many local companies, and retired from Twin Company in 1980. She was also a waitress at the Chateau Harmony restaurant. She was a devout Catholic, and a devoted daily communicant of St. Patrick's Parish in So. Hadley. She was a member of the Ladies Guild, and was a recipient of the Martha Mary Award in 1991. During her life, Marlene was a Cub Scout den mother as well as a talented cook and baker. She was known for making preserves of any kind and canning fruits and vegetables for her family. Her French meat pies and carrot cakes were legendary. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the nursing staffs of Holyoke Medical Center Intermediate Care Unit and Mt. Saint Vincent Care Center. A wake is scheduled for Thursday 10/13 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., So. Hadley. The funeral will be Friday at 9 am from the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at St. Patrick's Church in So. Hadley at 10:00 AM. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery.
