Martin W. O'Connell

SPRINGFIELD-Martin W. O'Connell died Thursday in Springfield's Vibra Hospital. Marty attended the High School of Commerce and graduated in 1970. He worked in food service for Baystate Medical and Aramark his entire life and received many food service awards. Marty was an avid thoroughbred racing fan. He also loved his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. When it came to football, he was a N.Y. Giants fan all the way. Some of the best times in his life were going to Las Vegas with his family and playing the sportsbook there. Marty loved to spend time in his youth at Johnny Appleseed Park and the Red Lion Café. Marty was predeceased by his loving parents Thomas H. and Joyce (Fell) O'Connell and his brother Brian D. O'Connell. Marty is survived by his brothers Thomas M. O'Connell and his wife Janice of Colchester, CT and Daniel J. O'Connell and his wife MaryAnn of Indian Orchard, two nieces Jennifer and Bridgid, nephew Brian D., great nepews and nieces and his loving girlfriend and companion Diane Chartier. The funeral will be Monday at 9:00am from the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by Mass in St. Michael's Cathedral at 10:00am with Monsignor Connelly officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 3:00 – 7:00pm. The family would like to thank the staff at Vibra Hospital for their kind and gentle care.
