Obituary

Mary Elizabeth "Mary Beth" (Brown) Ashe, 80 died Thursday at Mt. St. Vincent Nursing Home. She was born in Springfield, daughter of the late John and Nora (Costello) Brown, grew up in West Springfield and moved to Springfield in the 1980's. She worked as a secretary for Valley Bank/BayBank/Bank Boston and later was the Administrative Assistant for the Vicar General of the Diocese of Springfield and the Chancery. She was on various committees and boards for the Diocese of Springfield and St. Michael's Cathedral Parish. She gave her time whenever she was needed for the Catholic Church, the Sisters of St. Joseph and Monsignor Connelly. She leaves her daughter Mary Pat Ashe, her son-in-law Edward Gottschalk, and her grandson Thomas Devlin Ashe all of Chesapeake Beach, MD, many dear friends and some select few that she loved as family. She was predeceased by her sister Carol Anne Orr. The funeral Mass will be Saturday at 11 am at St. Michael's Cathedral followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours at the Cathedral will be Saturday 9:30 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Cathedral or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
