Mary O. Bailey

1932 – 2024

West Springfield – Mary O. (Fitzsimmons) Bailey, 92 died peacefully Friday morning.  Mary was born and raised in Holyoke, the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Ashe) Fitzsimmons.  She lived in West Springfield most of her life before spending her retirement years in Port Charlotte, FL.  She was a longtime dedicated Teacher for the West Springfield Public School System and member of the West Springfield Teachers Association. She taught countless children for 30 years and retired in 1992. Mary was a longtime communicant and Eucharistic Minister for St. Thomas the Apostle Church and was very active with the Pro-Life Group.  Her husband of 57 years, William J. Bailey, died in 2013. Family was the most important part of Mary's life.  She was a loving mother, adoring grandmother and loved spending time with all her family and friends.  She leaves three children James F. Bailey and his wife Gwen of York, ME, Kathleen McDonald, of Somers, CT and Daniel P. Bailey and his wife Carolyn of West Springfield; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Besides her parents and spouse, Mary was predeceased by a brother William J. Fitzsimmons, sister Margaret Foley and son-in-law Clyde McDonald.  The family would like to thank the staff at the Leavitt Family Jewish Home for the loving care they provided over the past seven years  Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday, Nov. 14th from 9:30 – 10:30am followed by Liturgy in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 11:00am with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.  Please consider a donation in Mary's name to Catholic TV, P.O.
