Obituary

Mary Jean Duffy, 81, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024. She was born July 10, 1942 to the late Walter and Catherine (Buiso) Duffy of Springfield, Massachusetts. Known to her family and friends as "Cookie," Mary proudly worked for AT&T and its successor companies for many years until she was able to retire early in the 1990s. Upon retirement, she took care of her ailing mother. Cookie was meticulous in all things she did. She was very fashionable, taking great pride in her appearance, and was often the best dressed person at family gatherings. Despite being a petite woman, she drove a white 1984 Camaro Z28. An avid tea drinker, Cookie was a great host, always having snacks on hand for whoever came to visit. Generous with her time to those she loved, she was sure to always return calls, and could be counted on to be a great listener. She was a very tidy person who found room in her life to adopt and care for a number of stray cats and family members. Cookie loved Christmas more than anything and was known for her extraordinary gift-giving efforts every year. Mary lived for her family and leaves behind her nephew Michael Duffy and his wife Hilary Peak of Worcester, her niece Megan Duffy of Los Angeles, niece Lori Bracken and husband Joey Bracken in the Canary Islands, Spain, and countless other loving family members in both humans and cat form. Mary was predeceased by her brothers Walter T. Duffy and Jerald M. Duffy. The funeral will be Friday, Feb. 16, 2024 at 12noon at CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME, 109 Main Street followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery, both in West Springfield. A calling hour will precede the service on Friday from 11am-12pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a scholarship donation to Zoe Desautels, daughter of the late Allyson Duffy, whom Cookie loved dearly. Donations can be sent to trustee Karen Roberts c/o  M&T Bank 445 Montgomery St. Chicopee, Ma  01020. For online condolences, please visit www.curranjones.com
