Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Halpin) Knadler  103, passed away on March 10, 2025, at Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing. Born on October 17, 1921, in Springfield, MA, to John and Elfriede (Spengler) Halpin, Mary lived a remarkable life defined by service, curiosity, and an enduring love for family. After graduating from local schools, Mary joined the Navy Reserve in 1942, serving in Bloomington, IN. Her journey then took her to Washington, D.C., where she spent five years working at the State Department. It was there that she developed a deep passion for politics and policy, an interest that would stay with her throughout her life. Upon returning home to Springfield, she took a position at Westover Air Force Base, where she met the love of her life, Robert W. Knadler, Jr. Together, they built a home in Wilbraham, MA, and raised six children. Once her children were grown, Mary continued to make her mark in the workforce, working as a customer service representative for companies such as Buxton and Nestlé. In retirement, she and her husband embraced adventure, traveling the world together. A lifelong learner, Mary eagerly embraced technology, becoming an avid web surfer and engaging in politics and social media well into her later years. It was her window to the world that kept her young, even at the age of 103. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert W. Knadler, Jr., and her sons, Robert W. Knadler III and William Knadler. She is survived by her children, Jack T. Knadler, Linda E. Knadler, Richard D. Knadler, and Nancy A. Knadler, along with Nancy's husband, Bruce C. Forcier. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Nicholas Land and Andrew Forcier. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Reeds Landing for their care in Mary's final days. A very special thank you to the warm and dedicated team at Loomis Village in South Hadley, who became part of our family and helped her live her best life in her final years. A private gathering will be held to honor Mary's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in Mary's memory.
