Obituary

Mary E. "Marie" (O'Brien) McCormack, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston on August 31, 1936, daughter of the late Jeremiah P. and Mary (Egan) O'Brien, she moved to Agawam in 1968. Marie was a retired telephone operator for Verizon and also worked as a long distance operator for AT&T.  She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Bell Telephone Retirees Association. Marie was the consummate, devoted mother and wife, always putting her family first.  She was known for her mischievous sense of humor, and she cherished spending time with her loved ones. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, and dancing, and she was an avid reader.  Marie was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and a former member of their St. John Bowling League. She leaves her beloved husband of sixty years, Frederick D. McCormack, two sons, Frederick "Mike" McCormack of Palmdale, CA, Stephen and his wife Lisa McCormack of Mendocino, CA, three daughters, Kathleen and her husband John Watkins of Feeding Hills, Patricia Vangsness of Enfield, Eireann and her husband John Kochka of Astoria, NY, two brothers and their wives, Jeremiah O'Brien, Jr. and Margaret of Lancaster, CA, Joseph and Sharon O'Brien of Dayton, NV, two sisters, Patricia O'Connor of Palmdale, CA, Eileen and her husband Douglas Wylie of Burnaby, British Columbia, two grandchildren, Kelsi Watkins, Alexander Watkins both of Feeding Hills and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her loving brother James O'Brien, and her brother-in-law Chester O'Connor.  The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from the AGAWAM CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street with a Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10. The internment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Monday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Massachusetts/Rhode Island Chapter, 220 North Main Street, Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760.
