Mary R. O'Keefe
1926 – 2011
SPRINGFIELD – Mary R. (Piacentini) O'Keefe, 85, formerly of Eddy Street died January 11, 2011. She was born in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce and has lived in Springfield most of her life. She retired after 20 years at Monarch Life Insurance Company as Director of Marketing.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church and was active in the Women's Guild. Most recently she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Over the years she also volunteered at Mercy Hospital, Baystate Medical Center Gift Shop at Wesson Women's, where she spent many Friday nights volunteering with her grand daughter Katie Aberdale. She also volunteered at Ronald McDonald House and Chicopee Public schools. She was an avid lap swimmer at Elms College and loved reading biographies.
Her loving husband of 53 years William L. O'Keefe predeceased her in 2002. She leaves her two loving daughters Nancy E. Aberdale and her husband Charles Hausmann of Venice, FL and Westerly, RI, and Beth A. Kelly and her husband James Kelly of Suffield, CT. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren Jim Aberdale of South Boston, MA, Katie Aberdale of South Boston, MA, Jeffrey Moore of Manchester, CT and Stephen Moore of San Diego, California.
She leaves her loving sisters Rose (Piacentini) Harrigan and Louise (Piacentini) Faits and was predeceased by her brothers Claude, Colombo, Guido and Satimo Piacentini and her sister Enis Nelson.
The funeral will be held at the WEST SPRINGFIELD CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME Monday, January 17th at 9:00am with Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church, Chestnut St., Springfield at 10:00am. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday January 16th from 4:00 – 7:00pm.
