Mary A. Piela
1919-2013
West Springfield- Mary A. (Kostecky) Piela, died Thursday at her sons home in Deerfield. She was born in East Deerfield, September 13, 1919, attended local schools there and moved to West Springfield in 1947. She worked at the Springfield Armory and as a waitress for many years at various restaurants in the area. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church in Chicopee. Mary was an avid gardener and cribbage player. She was a great dancer, prayed five Rosaries daily and loved to travel throughout the United States with her late husband Walter J. Piela, who died in 2011. She especially enjoyed Florida, Mt. Vernon and the scenery of the West. She leaves her children, Walter W. Piela of Deerfield, Joseph J. Piela of Hardwick, VT. and Mary Ellen Piela of Sebring, FL., her sister, Ann Owcarski of Chicopee, six grandchildren and two great granddaughters. The funeral will be held Saturday from the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home starting with a calling hour from 8:30-9:30 am followed by a Liturgy at St. Stanislaus Church at 10 am.
