Maryruth (Cady) Kane, 69, died Tuesday May 16 th in Mercy Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield, daughter of the late Robert C. and Ruth Cady. She was a graduate of St. Thomas School, Cathedral High School, Holyoke Community College and Westfield State College. She owned and operated Budget Signmakers since 1988 and taught art at Blessed Sacrament School in Holyoke for 8 years and Stefanik Elementary in Chicopee for 12 years. In retirement she bartended at the Scoreboard in Agawam. Maryruth was: a founding member of the Women's Softball League, a Park and Recreation Commissioner from 1995 -2010, helped to initiate the Skate Board Park, Revive the Pride and the revitalization of Main St. Pool and worked as a life guard at Camp Robinson . She was President of the West Springfield St. Patrick's Parade Committee for 10 years, was a member of WSYSA for 15 years and a member of the Holyoke Parade Committee for 8 years. Maryruth also was the St. Patrick's Parade Marshal in 2007 and received the Olde Mittineague Award in 2001 and the Aime LeVesque Award in 2013. She leaves her longtime partner Ann Morison of West Springfield, her son Robert E. Kane III, his wife Abbey and their children Robert IV, Mayson and Matthew all of Enfield, her loving brother Robert Cady and his wife Cheryl and their son Kevin, all of West Springfield and nieces and nephews Sarah Carroll, Amanda Kane-Colon, Tricia Caliento, P.J. Kane, Maggie Rios and Samantha Alicea. The calling hours will be Sunday May 21 st at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home from 2:00 to 5:00 pm followed by funeral home service at 5:00 pm. A celebration of life will be held at the Tatham Club Sunday at 5:30. All are welcome . In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to West Springfield Youth Sports Association or to the West Springfield St. Patrick's Parade Committee.
