Obituary

Maureen C. "Maun" (Shea) McCarthy, 88, died peacefully Tuesday morning in a local nursing home.  She was born in Springfield, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Catherine (Melaney) Shea. She was a retired Administrative Assistant in the Treasurer's Office for the City of Springfield. Maureen was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church. Maureen loved playing cards, working in her yard and loved caring for the birds and her cat Tigger. Most of all she especially enjoyed time with her FAMILY! She was a great Mother, Sister and Nana. She was predeceased by her husband Francis "Huck" McCarthy, sisters Geraldine S. Costello and Virginia C. Tillotson, brother Thomas A. Shea and a grandson Daniel Livingstone. She leaves three daughters Theresa A. Livingston and her husband Jim of Culpeper, VA, Carol A. Livingstone and her husband Don of Chicopee and Margaret A. "Maggie" McCarthy of Agawam, seven grandchildren Erin Mewes (Tim), Shannon Crosby (Bill), David Livingston (Megan), Nicholas Pandolfi (Taryn), Angela Hansberry (Dan), Maura Starke (Rick) and Mary Blackburn (Heath), nine great grandchildren Peter, Jonathan, Caroline and Victoria Mewes, Brody, Luke and Gwendolyn Pandolfi and the Twins Charlotte and Ryan Hansberry and many loving nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Saturday 9:00am from the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by Mass in Mary, Mother of Hope Church at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Special thanks to the staff at Mt. St. Vincent for the kindness and compassion shown to Maureen and her family.
