Michael C. Bitgood, 80, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 1, 2025. Born in Springfield, son of the late John and Madeline (Ploof) Bitgood, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam and a 1963 graduate of Agawam High School. After earning a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics from North Adams State College in 1967, he joined the Peace Corps. Michael taught math for thirty years in Springfield, first at Van Sickle Junior High School and later at High School of Commerce. He touched many lives with his humor, wisdom, and commitment to serving others. He was a Boy Scout Leader, Venturing Crew Advisor, and Assistant Ranger at Horace A. Moses Scout Reservation. Michael enjoyed camping, model trains, bird watching and history. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He was predeceased by a son, John Paul Bitgood and a brother, Brian Bitgood. He leaves two daughters, Barbara J. Bitgood of Auburn, Michelle L. Hatfield of Clayton, MI, a daughter-in-law, Nely Orta of Agawam, three brothers, James Bitgood of Wisconsin, Steven Bitgood of Alabama, Thomas Bitgood of Virginia, three sisters, Gail Longey of Feeding Hills, Jane Barrientos of West Springfield, Tracey Marshall of West Springfield, five grandchildren, Gabriel, Michael, Xavier, Aspen, Hunter and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Friday, December 12, 2025 from 4-7pm at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street. Relatives and friends are invited to meet on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 10am Sacred Heart Church, 1061 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills for a Funeral Mass. The burial will be private.
