Obituary

Michael R. Finn 90, died Friday night at the Holyoke Soldiers Home surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born and raised in Springfield, the son of the late Michael J. and Elizabeth (Barlow) Finn. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School and the University of Detroit and has lived in West Springfield for the past 48 years. He served his country in the United States Marine Core during World War II in the South Pacific, during this time he was a navigator bombardier and was part of many post combat operations. After the service Mike worked as an engineer with the National Bureau of Standards and the David Taylor Model Basin of the United States Navy. He then moved to Greenland to work on airfield construction with Metcalf & Eddy Engineers. Upon his return to the Springfield area, he worked for 25 years with Tighe & Bond Engineers, where he met his wife, and retired from the City of Springfield, Department of Public Works in 1989. During retirement, he volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and Meals on Wheels program, He leaves his wife of 51 years, Marie (Boulais) Finn; two children Elizaberh Konheim and her husband Seth and Michael J. Finn and his wife Jennifer. He also leaves brother a Robert and his wife Penny; and five grandchildren Madelyn, David, Charlie, Peter and Molly. Mike is best described as having a great personality whom everyone liked. He was quiet by nature with a subtle sense of humor. He enjoyed reading books about World War II, traveling with his wife, and attending Mass at St. Thomas, where he was a communicant for over 50 years. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Wednesday at 11:00am with Liturgy in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 1:00pm. Burial in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday morning from 11:00am – 12:30pm. For more detail please visit curranjones.com.
