Michael (F.X.) Hourihan, 72, of West Springfield MA departed this Earth on March 12, 2023 while vacationing in Florida with his wife Eileen. Mike was predeceased by his loving parents; John and Mary Hourihan. He was born in NYC on Sept 9, 1950. Mike graduated from UMass with a degree in counseling and worked at Combustion Engineering/ABB/Alstom Power before moving on to St. Mary High School in Westfield MA as Dean of Students and Guidance Counselor. Mike helped many people through his compassion and ability to connect to those who needed counsel.

Mike leaves his wife of 42 years Eileen (Fahey), his children Patricia (Seth Mias), Michael (Sean Nunley), John, and Cornelius (Melissa Ireland). He also leaves his three adored grandchildren; Nolan, Molly, and Finnian Mias. Additionally, Mike leaves his siblings; Patrick Hourihan (Sandy) and James Hourihan (Adrienne), his in-laws; Neil Fahey (Anne), Trish Fahey, and Peg Landry (Charlie). Mike was blessed to have multiple nephews, nieces, 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd  cousins in his life that he loved. Mike met and kept friends throughout his life from his childhood, schools he attended, work, and his neighborhoods. He will be missed by all, including his friend Bill W.  of 45 years, his friend Gary Smith of forever, Corey Jenkins, and many friends that gathered at The Farm over the years.

How lucky were we to have such a loving, hilarious, and gentle person in our lives?  We will miss teasing him lovingly yet mercilessly.   His laugh was contagious, and we did everything we could to hear it. His grandchildren will miss his chocolate chip pancakes, which they insisted he cook for them every weekend morning. It should be mentioned that they wake up VERY EARLY.

His children will miss all things "dad" related, such as him insisting on checking the oil in our cars before we left for a long road trip, last minute, no matter how late we were running.  Why is the lawn mower not working, I just put gas in it?  Dad I accidentally spilled an entire can of paint on my wood floors, how do I clean it???!  DAD MY TOILET IS OVERFLOWING AND I CANT GET IT TO STOP WHEN CAN YOU GET HERE?!

His wife Eileen will miss her soulmate, her partner in life and in golf, as well as his uncanny ability to build and fix everything and anything. However, she can now put as many nails as she wants in any wall.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held SAT March 25th, 2023 at 10 AM in St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine St., W. Spfld. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held FRI March 24th, 2023 from 4 to 7 PM at the CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME, 109 MAIN ST., W. SPFLD.
