Michael A. Near

1943 – 2018

WILBRAHAM – Michael A. Near, 75, died Monday in Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his family.  Mike was born and raised in Springfield and has lived in Wilbraham for the past 28 years.  He was a retired assistant store manager for Rocky's Hardware, retiring in 2007 after 20 years.  He served with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  Mike was an avid fisherman and enjoyed nothing more than making people laugh and spending time with his family.  He leaves two sons David E. Near and Steven A. Near and his wife Nancie; four grandsons Ian, Dillon, Jesse and Troy and a great granddaughter Adelynn.  The funeral will be held Monday at 10:00am in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.  Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00pm.  For more details please visit curranjones.com.
