Obituary

Mildred C. Baeder

1921 - 2024

Longmeadow, MA - Mildred W. (Covington) Baeder, 103, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lynchburg, VA, to the late Stanley H. and Thelma (King) Covington. Mildred graduated from Duke University with a nursing degree, having first attended Madison Women's College.

It was at Duke that she met her future husband, Dr. Robert L. Baeder. The two married and shared a loving partnership for 67 years until his passing in 2011. Together, they raised five children and lived in Cedar Grove, NJ, and Manchester, NJ, before relocating to Longmeadow in 2013.

Mildred was a dedicated Registered Nurse at Orange Memorial Hospital in New Jersey until she chose to focus on raising her family. She was known to her friends as "Millie," a woman with a quick wit, a love of words, and a dry sense of humor. Millie was an avid player of both Bridge and Scrabble, and her needlework was admired by many. Along with her husband, she was a founding member of the Cedar Grove Community Church, where they were both deeply involved in church activities. She also enjoyed being part of the Rotary Ann's Club.

Millie cherished summers spent with her family in Highland Lakes, NJ.

Her legacy is carried on by her five children: Robert and wife Jan of Fredericksburg, VA; Ann Boyajian and husband David of Longmeadow, MA: Richard of Concord, NC; Virginia La Vallo and husband Phil of Naples, FL: and Keith and wife Nancy of Dublin, OH. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren -Jennifer, Scott, Aaron, Alana, Arianne, Corey, Daniel, Nicole, and Michele-as well as eight great-grandchildren: Alex, Nicholas, Alaina, Sophia, Marina, Violet, Clare and Julia.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband, parents, and her brother, Stanley H. Covington Jr.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the B.G. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. NJ. Arrangements are being handled by the Curran-Jones Funeral Home of West Springfield, MA. For online condolences, please visit curranjones.com
