Mildred M. Gajda, 92, longtime resident of Chicopee died on November 20, 2018 at Mt. Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke. Born on September 3, 1926 in Northampton, she was the youngest and sole surviving child of Joseph and Marianna (Zarzeeka) Borowski. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lottie Borowski and Victoria Kozlowski, and brothers Chester, Charles, Matthew, Walter and Stanley Borowski. She is survived by her son John F. Gajda and daughter-in-law Deborah C. Shallcross of Tulsa, OK, daughter Patt Gajda and son-in-law Tom Geanacopoulos of Chicopee, and granddaughter Faith S. Geanacopoulos. She was proud of her culinary skills and enjoyed sharing her creations with family and friends. She utilized her talents to serve thousands of children as a cook in the cafeteria of several Chicopee Public Schools until she retired in 1986. She shared 52 years of married life with her husband Fred P. Gajda, who passed away in 2000, and will be laid to rest beside him at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley immediately following a Mass of Christian Burial at the Our Lady of the Cross Church in Holyoke at 11:00 am on Wednesday November 28th. A calling hour will be held at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, South Hadley beginning at 9:30 am the day of the funeral until departure for the church.
