Obituary

Mitchell F. Wajda, 85, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Born in Chicopee, son of the late Max and Frances (Bartkiewicz) Wajda, he was a graduate of Chicopee High School and also had attended American International College. Mitchell was the owner of the former East Hardware Store in Chicopee and also worked for the former Doane & Williams Lumber Company in Chicopee. He was an army veteran of the Korean conflict. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his family's camp at Highland Lake in Goshen. He especially enjoyed vacations with his family and grandchildren. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Wingate at West Springfield that took such wonderful care of Mitchell during his time there. He leaves his wife of fifty-two years, Justine M. (Morin) Wajda, his daughter and her husband, Michelle R. and Robert DeFranzo of East Granby, CT, three grandchildren, Ryan DeFranzo, Hannah DeFranzo, Nicholas DeFranzo, a nephew, Phillip Wajda of Southampton, a sister-in-law, Rose Morin of Enfield, and other cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Henry Wajda. Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on Friday at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 1103 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. There are no calling hours and the CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME is in charge. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Box 758540, Topeka, KS, 66675-8540.
