SPRINGFIELD – Mona J. (Tessier) Chapin, 55, of Anthony Street died Monday at home. Mona was born in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School in 1974, and has lived here all her life. A former model, in 1975, she was crowned Miss Massachusetts and runner up for the Miss World Crown with Bob Hope as the Master of Ceremonies. After graduating from STCC she was employed by Baystate Medical Center as an operating room technician. A Jehovah Witness she was a pioneer of the North Congregation Kingdom Hall in Springfield. A kind and generous person she will always be remembered for her sense of humor. Through her courageous battle with diabetes she set an example to all that knew her. Mona never let her illnesses defeat her and always moved forward with a zest for life. She was extremely brave, compassionate and will be extremely missed by those who loved her. She leaves her loving husband Douglas W. Chapin; beloved children David Chapin of Shrewsbury, Daniel Chapin of Worcester and Sarah Chapin Villalobos and her husband Larry of Chicopee. She was the cherished sister of Kevin Tessier and his wife Christina, Kathleen Foster and her companion Frank Pokigo, Colleen Hirschkorn and her husband Dr. Mark Hirschkorn, AnnMarie McAndrews and her husband Edward and the late Richard Tessier. She also leaves a granddaughter "the love of her life" Olivia Villalobos and many dear friends. Besides her brother she was predeceased by her parents Urbain and Lucille (Richard) Tessier. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday at Noon. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral home service on Friday from 11:00am – 12:00Noon.
