May 5, 1926 – August 9, 2021
Muriel I. Thies (Soden) passed away at home on August 9, 2021. She was born on May 5, 1926 to Edward W. and Anna G. (Barden) Soden. She graduated from Agawam High School and spent most of her life in Agawam. In 1954 she married Richard W. Thies whom she met at the roller rink in town. Muriel was a stay at home mom who liked to cook and do crafts. She was known for her delicious pies and at the holidays she often baked 10-12 for family and friends to enjoy. No one would turn down her vegetable beef soup, corn chowder or macaroni and potato salads. Pot roast was also a family favorite.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son Scott and her siblings – Edwin (Irene), Fred (Mary), Donald (Blanche), Ralph (Alice), Marie Soden and Ruby (George) Hendricks as well as friends Burt and Helen Rogers and Ralph and Eleanor King.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her four children, Richard and his wife Rose Thies of Oxford, Samuel and his wife Cathy Thies, Douglas and his wife MaryJo Thies all of Agawam, Jana and her husband Tony Forzano of Ludlow, a sister Bunny and her husband Jim Caramazza of Suffield, as well as 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and family friends.
The family would like to thank Jessica, Maryann and Pam from Hospice of Western Mass for their support and friendship over the last 2 years. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to this organization.
