Obituary

Nancy Mae (Wile) Swikalus, 82, passed away peacefully in her home in Feeding Hills, MA on February 25, 2024, on her 82nd birthday, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on February 25, 1942, in Ware, MA to the late Walter and Bertha (Kos) Wile and lived in Feeding Hills for over fifty years in the dream home that she and her husband built when they were first married.

After attending Palmer High School in Palmer, MA, Nancy pursued her Teaching Degree at Fitchburg State College, graduating in 1964. She began her teaching career at the Powder Mill School in Monson, MA where she taught for the first seven years of her career.  Nancy then dedicated over thirty years to the Agawam Public School system, teaching third grade and fifth grade at The James Clark School.  On numerous occasions students from her past would mention the incredible impact she had on their life, often pointing out that she was their favorite teacher. Upon retirement she spent her free time with various charities and volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and the Agawam Public Library. Nancy loved to travel, read books, and spend time with family and friends. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills.

Nancy was the ultimate example of kindness, anyone privileged enough to know her could only speak about how wonderful of a person she truly was. She was a source of strength and grace for everyone in her life, witty and kind at all times. She loved her family immensely and provided all the love and support they ever needed. Nancy was truly blessed being able to experience everything she had ever wanted to, traveling the world with family and friends, and always had a beautiful smile on her face. She will be forever missed by everyone fortunate enough to know her. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Robert W. Swikalus, her beloved children, a son, Marc Swikalus and his wife Laura Levesque of Malden, MA, a daughter, Lori Elek and her husband Matthew Elek of Agawam, a sister, Shirley Rogers of Thousand Oaks, CA, a niece, Karen Shaw and her husband William of Moorpark, CA, a sister-in-law, Sheila Swikalus of Agawam, as well as many extended family members. Nancy cherished her many friendships, including Joanne and Richard Dernoga, Noreen Poole, Janice Phillips and Frankie Solan and all of her college friends, the Palmer Hall Girls.  Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Rachael Copeland and Karen Vicalvi who dedicated their time and energy taking incredible care of Nancy.
