Obituary

Neil F. Demers

1949 – 2019

FEEDING HILLS – Neil F. Demers, 69, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday. He was born in Springfield, came of age in Chicopee, and has contentedly resided in Feeding Hills for more than four decades. A true patriot, Neil served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Military Policeman. A reliable and dutiful employee, Neil held the role of Manager of Environmental Services for Holyoke Medical Center, Service First, and Adams & Adams Building Services. Following a lifelong dream to travel to Ireland, this past fall, Neil became a patron of the Irish Cultural Center in West Springfield. Neil leaves his cherished wife Cynthia (Therien) Demers, with whom he was inseparable for the 45 years they spent together. He also leaves his children, Kerri McManama and her husband Steve, and Brett Demers and his fiancé, Brigid Willigan. Neil was to serve as Brett's Best Man at their wedding later this month; his speech was already complete. Neil also leaves his brother, Guy Demers and his wife Gail, plus his two sisters, Charlene Shea and her husband Thomas, and Joanne Carufel. Last, but certainly not least, Neil leaves two grandchildren, Caroline and Connor McManama -- they called him "Granda", a Gaelic moniker for "grandfather". Visiting hours will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Wednesday, April 10th from 12:00 – 1:00pm, followed by a committal service in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.  For more details, please visit curranjones.com .
