Newell E. Boober, 84, died Saturday in Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Springfield and lived most of his life in West Springfield. He was retired from the Town of West Springfield Public Works department and was a member of the Pioneer Valley Baptist Chapel in Chicopee where he also helped out as janitor. Newell loved to do puzzles and read. He leaves his wife Celeste (Akley) Boober, two sons Michael and his wife Patricia of Chicopee and Mark and his wife Tracy of Lancaster, NY, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 am at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
