Obituary

Norman Oyler age 92 died peacefully at The Holyoke Soldier's Home on Wednesday, Feb. 26th surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Springfield to the late Reginald W. and Katherine Oyler he was educated in the Springfield School System.  Norm married his sweetheart Ruth Elizabeth Blackmore and soon left his new bride to join the United States Navy and served during WWII in Okinawa Japan. Post war the honorably discharged Norm after a short time working at D'Amour's Gas Station was determined to be his own boss.  He started the milk business Berkshire Valley Farms, Inc. Over the years the business grew and prospered. Norm and Ruth raised a family of six children in their family home in Chicopee.  To his friends and customers, he was known as, Mr. Berkshire, Mr. Milkman, Milkman and Norm.  His family knew him as Dad and Grampa a kindhearted, larger than life, humorous and loving man. Of his many talents he had a special talent for drawing cartoons and spinning stories. Norm was known by all for his long entertaining stories which he loved to repeat often.  Norm was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life, a firm understanding of what was important, the simplicity of living a life with those you love. He will be sadly missed by all who shared in this love.  Norm was a Past Grandmaster of The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts Independent Order of Old Fellows, Amity Lodge 172. He also served as a Senior Warden for many years at Grace Episcopal Church in Chicopee.  Norm and Ruth enjoyed roller skating and square dancing for many years.  Norman is survived by his children; Barbara Oyler Roberts and her husband Leland, Candy Oyler, Laurie Oyler and her husband Craig Bartish. He also leaves four grandchildren, Jennifer Walsh, Melissa Oyler, Patrick Oyler, Timothy Oyler, and their significant others and children. He also leaves his nieces Judith and Cindy and nephews Robert Oyler, George and Kevin Russell and longtime friend George Stanek.  He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Elizabeth and sons, Bruce, James and John Oyler. He was also predeceased by his mother and father, and siblings, Barbara, William, Shirley and baby Mary.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Norm and join the family in a celebration of the life of Norm Oyler during the visitation at the West Springfield Curran Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9:00am until the funeral service beginning at 10:00am followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.   A time to remember Norm's words, "so long… take care"  And In the words of Mahatma Gandhi,  "Remember there are no goodbyes for us.
