Norman Lee
Steadman
March 16, 1934 – February 8, 2024
Norman Lee Steadman (89) entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
Born in Ferrisburgh, Vermont to Louise (Miller) and Charles Steadman. Norman grew up and graduated from West Springfield High School and spent most of his adult life in Agawam and Ferrisburgh.
He leaves his teenage sweetheart and wife of 69 years, Marcia (Binnenkade) Steadman, his daughters Deborah Yorke and her husband Dan, Wendy Matys and her husband Kevin and Susan Tower and her husband Wayne. He leaves his grandchildren, Joseph DePalma, Katie Yorke, Zachary Matys, Anna Arabian, Katie Freund and Sarah Tower and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents Norman was predeceased by his 5 brothers and 7 sisters.
Norman served as paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean Conflict and worked in the data processing industry for nearly forty years. He was talented in woodworking and painting and often gave his creations to family and friends and they will be forever cherished.
His love of family inspired his interest in genealogy and his curiosity with history was complemented by a stint as curator of the Lincoln Historical Society Museum in Vermont.
Mostly, he loved spending time with his family and specifically his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he treated with a rare combination of mentorship, camaraderie and mischievous sense of fun.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a memorial service at Hope Community Church, 152 South Westfield Street, Feeding Hills, on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11 am. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the building fund for Hope Community Church or the Greater Springfield Senior Services, Inc. (gsssi.org)
