Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of PAUL M. LICHWAN, 76, announce his passing at home. He was born on 9-11-44 to Michael and Blanche (Sobieski) Lichwan. He attended Chicopee High School and started his 30-year career with Abdow Corporation at an early age, progressing from dishwasher to VP of Restaurant Operations. He later joined forces with his son Marc to help him with his business MCL Mechanical Services. Throughout his life Paul was known for his many kindnesses, giving help and advice to whomever needed it. He taught us that it's easy to see the bad in people, but harder to see the good. It was a philosophy he lived by – always seeing the good. He will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him. Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and was a racehorse enthusiast for most of his adult life – even being chosen by the state of CT as the #2 ranked handicapper one year which earned him a spot in the world series of handicapping in Las Vegas. He leaves his three children, son Michael and daughter-in-law Katrina of Hampden, CT, his daughter Melissa and son-in-law Jonathan Besse of Longmeadow and his son Marc and daughter-in-law Serena of Westfield and his 9 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Fred and sisters Helen, Wanda, and Harriet. Special thanks to his grand-daughter Sarah Howland who has been his major care giver for the last few years. Also Baystate VNA for their wonderful care when needed and in his final days Baystate Hospice for their compassionate care. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home, Friday, March 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00pm.  A private burial will be held Saturday.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to: Baystate Visiting Nurse Association, 50 Maple Street, Springfield, MA 01105 or St. Thomas the Apostle School Annual Fund, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089.  Please note that masks are required, social distancing is suggested and the funeral home capacity is limited due to state regulations.
