Obituary

Paul C. Mykytiuk, 94, of South Hadley, passed away peacefully at home on November 14, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born June 20,1923 in Holyoke, he was the son of the late Peter Mykytiuk and Mary (Katchur) Mykytiuk. Paul was a lifelong resident of South Hadley, graduating from South Hadley High School in 1939. He attended Holyoke Trade School from 1939 to 1941 where he studied to become an electrician. Paul worked at the Springfield Armory when he enlisted in the Navy in 1942. Following basic training in Sampson NY, he received additional training in Washington DC and Lafayette, IN, where he met his future wife and lifelong companion Henrietta "Penny" Montgomery. Paul was assigned to Naval ship LST141 where he served during World War II in the African and European theatres. Following the end of the war Paul and Henrietta were married in August of 1945 in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. They settled in South Hadley where Paul worked as an electrician and Henrietta as a registered nurse. They built a home together on Park Avenue where they raised eleven children. Paul and Henrietta have always been passionate about family and friends, enjoying many gatherings around the pool and fresh vegetables from their large garden. Both Paul and Henrietta were lifelong communicants of St. Patrick's church is South Hadley. Paul is predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend Henrietta (Montgomery) Mykytiuk, who passed away in August of 2007. He is survived by his sister Helen Willemain, brother Donald Mykytiuk, children Paul Mykytiuk Jr. and wife Darlene, Susan Harman and husband Preston, Philip Mykytiuk and wife Melissa, David Mykytiuk and wife Lisa, Robert Mykytiuk, Elizabeth Cuzzort and husband George, James Mykytiuk, Joyce Dickerman and husband Richard, Teresa Hutton and husband Dennis, Donna Mykytiuk, Kenneth Mykytiuk and wife Christina, as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in South Hadley on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 11:00 followed by committal services with military honors at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA at 1:00pm., where Paul will be interred next to his beloved wife Henrietta.  The Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.  For more details please visit curranobrien.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Paul's memory to Baystate VNA & Hospice, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
