Obituary

Paul P. Schoenrock, "Bud", 74, of West Springfield, son of Paul F. and Edith (Grubert) Schoenrock, died Thursday morning at home surrounded by his loving family and friends, after fighting a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  Paul was born in Westfield, and attended Westfield High School, where he was a four-sport athlete, a standout on the gridiron and hockey rink. He went on to graduate from Holyoke Junior College and attended American International College. Following college, he joined the Massachusetts Air National Guard, serving in the 104 th Tactical Fighter Wing at Barnes ANG Base in Westfield for over 26 years. Paul had a successful career in the insurance industry. Upon retirement, he enjoyed operating his own painting and home improvement business. Throughout his life, he enjoyed volunteering in his community, as a youth sports coach, in Lions Club International and as a member of the National Ski Patrol. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, fisherman, kayaker, hiker and skier. Some of his favorite times were spent on the ski slopes of Okemo, Vermont, Mt. Tom in Holyoke and at the Springfield Ski Club in Blandford. He also enjoyed his relaxation, and spent many a summer day on the beaches of Ogunquit, Maine; Cape Cod and Otis Reservoir with his family and friends. Paul was always the life of the party, with his outlandish stories that had just enough truth in them to keep people wondering. We are certain he has been reunited with his best buddy Dr. Jay, and the stories will continue. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Karen (Rix) Schoenrock, his high school sweetheart. He was a loving father to his son, Todd Brady Schoenrock, of Cape May, New Jersey; his daughter, Tristin Colbert and his son-in-law Michael Colbert, of West Springfield. He adored his grandchildren, Ryan & Taylor Colbert.  A celebration of Paul's life will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, November 6 th at the Curran Jones Funeral Home in West Springfield, followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, November 5 th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
