Obituary

FEEDING HILLS - Pauline M. (Spafford) Mickey, 93, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 12, 2022. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born on January 1, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Russell and Cora (Lake) Spafford. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty-two years, Percy A. Mickey in 2010 and also by her four brothers and three sisters. She was a lifelong member of Agawam United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, baked pies for the church's food booth at the Big E and made crafts for the Christmas Bazaar. She taught crocheting for most of her life and many Western Massachusetts residents have hand crocheted crosses she made and gave out to anyone and everyone she met. She taught cake decorating and craft making at the church's summer Bible Camp (Peaceful Acres Day Camp) and generally welcomed all newcomers to the church with open arms. Pauline was a cub scout den mother of Pack 75 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of the Elm-Belcher Masonic Lodge. She assisted her husband, Percy, in conducting a monthly worship service at the Country Estates Nursing Home, a tradition which she and her son, Mark, continued for years after Percy's death. She was also known as Mrs. Claus to many of Agawam's children as well as those at Westfield Infant Toddler's Program (WITS). Pauline was a kind, compassionate and giving person who loved to share her faith with everyone she met. She will be dearly missed. She leaves her five children, Beverly (Mickey) Vissoe and her husband, David of South Kingston, RI, George Mickey, Mark Mickey, Charles Mickey and his wife Karen all of Feeding Hills, Shelley (Mickey) Lopez and her husband, Miguel of Springfield. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Luke Vissoe, Catie Vissoe, Stephen Mickey, Alan Mickey, Christian Mickey, Nathaniel Mickey and Mitchell Andrews as well as six great-grandchildren. A private burial service was held on March 29, 2022 at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In addition, a Memorial Service will be held to honor and celebrate her life on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 12 noon at the Agawam United Methodist Church, 459 Mill Street, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Health of New England Hospice, 200 Hillside Circle, West Springfield, MA 01089, attn. Laurie Mellor.
